Cannot create account, signin options refuse my email address
-
I’m trying to set up a Gravatar for a business account (email visible only to moderators and staff). We host our own email on our own server (a Postfix+Dovecot setup) and have full SPF, DMARC, DKIM configured. I have signed up for a Google account using the “use my own email address” option. It looks like I must have an account on wordpress.com to be able to use the Gravatar service, but the WordPress ‘Create account’ flow is refusing my email address with a vague error message.
The ‘Create your account’ offers two options that look likely to suit my situation:
1/ ‘Continue with Google’ button is totally broken because after logging in using the popup Google signin window, it then says you do not support it (“You cannot use that email address to signup. We are having problems with them blocking some of our email. Please use another email provider.”. Google is not my email provider, my google account is connected to my private info@adpartnersuite.com email account which is not a gmail hosted email. This seems very weird, to offer a ‘Continue with Google’ option when you do not support Google signin.
2/ ‘Continue with email’ asks me for my email address and immediately tells me “We couldn’t create your account with this email. Please try a different email, or contact support if the problem persists.” It does not try to send an email for verification, it just flatly refuses my email address. So here I am contacting support. I assume it’s a problem with the DNS associated with my domain name adpartnersuite.com, but it’s all working fine as an email account, I see no reason why WordPress would have a problem with it.
Please advise :)

Haven’t you had a WordPress.com account for 14 years? How else could you be posting right now in this WordPress.com support forum?

There are several reasons why wordpress.com blocks an email address from creating an account. WordPress.com blocks an email address from creating an account primarily to prevent spam and platform abuse. If you are seeing a block, it is usually because the domain is flagged in our system because of e.g. patterns associated with spam.

@themagicrobot yes indeed, I have had a personal account for a long time, and now I am posting about trying to create an account for a business account using a different email address. This is normal, no? :)
Your question sounds like the conversation I had with the AI chatbot on the login page. When I said I was having trouble creating a business account using the new email, it said I couldn’t talk directly to customer service and should instead use the forums to seek advice. I pointed out that I cannot use the forums without logging in, and it said it was only an AI bot and couldn’t really help me. Fair enough, but it was rather amusing to me :)
