Cannot Download WordPress.org

    Hi,

    I tried to download WordPress.org on my MacBook, however when I try to open the zip file it doesn’t open. I’ve enabled pop ups so I’m not sure what could be going on.

    Appreciate your help with this.

    Hi Sara,

    WordPress.org is a website. You can’t download that.

    If you meant the WordPress software available on that website, you’re not supposed to be able to open it on your Macbook. That software is intended to be installed on a web server. It’s not an app that you can just install and run directly on any computer.

    It is possible to use that software on a regular computer for development purposes, but then you need special software to create a virtual server on your computer’s hard drive. However, note that such a locally-hosted site like that can only be accessed from the computer on which it’s installed – it won’t be online, and no one else will be able to access it.

    For help developing with WordPress locally on your computer, please ask in the forums on WordPress.org. The WordPress.com forums you’re posting in now only provides support for sites hosted on WordPress.com, like your site at http://beautyinrosedale.wordpress.com/. We’re not able to help with sites running the open source version of WordPress, as that’s not the same thing as WordPress.com.

    Please note that you also won’t be able to upload any site you create in that way to our servers on WordPress.com, as WordPress.com sites don’t work the same as sites running the open source WordPress software.
