Cannot Set Up Google Apps Email – Error
-
Hello, I have a google apps e-mail and have followed all the steps outlined by wordpress to link the e-mail to my domain. When I use the standard e-mail set-up I get this error “Error
There was an error configuring your Google Apps email account to link it to liveoutsideblog.com.” I am logged into my Google Apps Account. I have also tried adding a CNAME record and MX records. I still can’t get it to work. I am self-hosted and my host points to WordPress Name Servers.

Just to be sure, are the these the steps you followed?

That’s it. I get a pop-up for a second on the fourth step when I click “Start” but it disappears and then gives me an error. I’ve tried it from two different browsers. I don’t see a way to turn on pop-ups, and I do get pop-ups on other sites. But it seems like it must be another issue.

Ok, try going through Google Apps directly first, not through us, and get your email address set up.
Then, you should be able to follow our guide and skip ahead to attaching the email address.

I think I’m confused. I have an e-mail set up through google apps that is (email visible only to moderators and staff). I set that up through google apps before trying to verify and link it through wordpress. I followed all the steps in your guide. I’m not sure what I should be doing differently.

Is the guide working out for you at all? There should be a step where you state that you already have a Google Apps account.

It works up until step four. Then it give me the error. Here’s a screen shot. http://www.liveoutsideblog.com/wphidden/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Screen-Shot-2012-06-15-at-12.48.59-PM.png

Ok, in this case I recommend contacting Google about that. There appears to be something on their end stopping us.
Sorry about that!

Hm, that’s a paid. Ok, I don’t have specifics on this, but there should be a way for you to get DNS records on Google’s end to finish setting up your email. Specifically, you’re looking for CNAME, MX, and possibly TXT records.
Once you have those, you can try adding those to your Custom DNS panel: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/custom-dns/

I did all that and have tried both verification processes. I added the MX records and CName Verification, but after 48 hours, it still says “something went wrong” on my google dashboard.
CNAME google1f39936e2c601b6a google.com.
MX 5 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
MX 5 ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
MX 1 ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
MX 10 ASPMX2.GOOGLEMAIL.COM.
MX 10 ASPMX3.GOOGLEMAIL.COM.
TXT v=spf1 include:aspmx.googlemail.com ~all -

Perfect, please let us know how it goes. If you still see “something went wrong” you’ll need to contact Google again.
