Cannot stop emails from WordPress.com

  I recently deleted some old WordPress sites associated with work and deleted the accounts. However, I keep getting sent email to one of the accounts from WordPress.com. There is a link in the email to manage accounts, but that makes me log in with the old account which doesn’t work because it has been deleted. I have tried creating a new account with that email address but it tell me there is already an account associated with it. So it is telling me the account is both deleted and already associated with the email. I don’t have any of the information required to do an account recovery, just access to the email account used to create the account. How do I stop the emails?
