Can't access my blog dashboard. Please help!
-
Hi. I can’t access my blog’s dashboard. I can go to WordPress.com and enter my user name and password just fine, but if i click the tab “my blog” and try to link to my dashboard, i get an “cannot display webpage” error from IE (similar message when using Firefox). Further, when logged into WordPress, I can open a new browser window and type in my blog <freethecommons.com> and it loads properly, but if i again use the WordPress navigation bar at the top of my blog and try to enter my dashboard, i get an error message. I’m very confused. I’ve cleared cache and cookies a thousand times, shut down and restarted, loaded Firefox. Nothing works!
By the way, the URL listed below says “freethecommons.wordpress.com” but that is not correct. It’s “freethecommons.com”
Blog url: http://freethecommons.wordpress.com/The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Can you access the Dashboard directly via https://freethecommons.wordpress.com/wp-admin/ ?
If not, is your ISP HughesNet?
-
Hi:
I get my internet locally, not from HughesNet.
I can’t access my dashboard from anywhere. I used to type in <freethecommons.com/admin> and that always worked. Likewise, I could log in to WordPress.com and access my dashboard from the menu at the top <my blog – dashboard>. But I can’t get into the dashboard either of those ways now, nor the link you suggested above. I can go so far as to visit my website <freethecommons.com> and see that i’m signed in, becasue of the wordpress menu at the top, but when i try to get into my dashboard, i get a server not found or similar error message. This just started a few days ago. I also downloaded Firefox and tried that route (i use IE) to no avail.
Thanks for any advice. -

Hi: I do have cookies and third party cookies active in Firefox and in IE9. Still no luck.
-
Would you please take a screenshot of the full screen when you see the error?
Do you have a way to upload it somewhere that I can take a quick look, or would you like me to send you an email so you can attach it in a reply?
-

Ah, don’t respond to that email, it won’t go anywhere.
I’ll send you a separate email that you can reply to in just a minute. Then, we’ll continue via email.

Macmanx:
Still no luck with my blog! it’s down as we speak. My ISP says they don’t ever block blogs. My account shows my address as http://freethecommons.wordpress.com. That isn’t correct. I pay for hosting. it should be http://freethecommons.com Is this maybe part of a problem somewhere? WordPress says this is the address people see when I comment on other blogs.
Trying to resolve this. Thanks so much.

http://freethecommons.com/ is working just fine.
Please try clearing your browser’s cache: http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
If that doesn’t work, try clearing your DNS cache: http://www.opendns.com/support/article/68

Thanks Macmanx:
The problem i now know is not with WordPress, but I could use your advice:
I can access my blog dashboard fine at work but not at home on either my PC or Mac. I reset my modem and wireless router last night and that didn’t do the trick, but I haven’t ruled out a problem there. I contacted my ISP (Bresnan Communications) and they assure me that they don’t block websites. Right now my computer is with GeekSquad running diagnostics.
So i’m a little confused. I thought it was my PC security or connection settings, but the same thing is happening to my IPad, so it seems not to be the computers, which leaves a problem at the modem or with my ISP.
Any thoughts?
Thanks for all your help.

Yep. I’ve cleared cache, cookies, everything. Downloaded new browser, tried a different computer, reset my modem, nothing works.

MacManx:
Found the problem: It’s my buffalo airstation wireless G54 internet router. It for some reason is blocking certain sites. I’m trying to access the security settings on it but it’s not letting me log in. If you have any advice would appreciate it.

Hm, I haven’t had experience with Buffalo routers. Have you tried completely resetting it?
-
Hi:
Yeah, i completely reset it. Same problems. I have access to its settings now, but i don’t know what settings to change or problems to look for. If i can’t get help from Buffalo i’ll just go buy a new one for $49. -
Yeah, this is definitely a problem with the router, which unfortunately I can’t help with. I hope you hear back from them soon!
