Can't create name.wordpress.com anymore?
-
I’m trying to create a wordpress.com site and the process won’t let me continue without buying a domain name. You used to be able to create a name.wordpress.com site. Is that not possible anymore?

Hi there,
It is definitely still possible, but depending on the options you select during the site creation process you might see a free .blog subdomain suggested rather than a free WordPress.com subdomain. Free .blog subdomains work exactly the same as a free WordPress.com address.

Thanks for your reply. I’m afraid I can’t see any option to create a free subdomain. It takes me straight from naming my blog to trying to buy a domain.

Hi –
I have just tested this on your account and am able to pick a free site address. When you get to step 4 of 5 in the setup, type in a random string of letters/numbers.wordpress.com and you’ll see free options get populated beneath.
If for some reason it’s not working, write back to me here, include the desired site address so I can try to register it to the account.
