Can’t figure out how to set a background on each page that i post

I’ve been googling this issue but can’t seem to find a straight answer, either that or I just don’t understand. When I choose the customize tab, it goes to my homepage but I don’t want to change that. I want to add a background to a new page before I start writing. How can I do that?
