Can’t find Homepage photo in editor.
-
Hi,
Ok, the photo in my Home title page with the thumnail is no where in the editor when I go to the homepage to work on it. The title is there, and description, but not the photo. I cannot find it anywhere but in the thumbnail for the homepage. I can only find one other photo that I posted on the first post which is still in draft. I do not want to launch site this until I have everything in order and at least 4 posts to display other than the ‘about me’ and intro. Can you tell me why I am not able to see the picture where I left it on the Home title page, and what I need to do to recover or repost it?
The site I need help with is [visible only to staff] (email visible only to moderators and staff).

Then if I go to edit my home title page, everything I had there before is gone, and I would have to start from scratch! This is so utterly confusing and WAAAAYYY too difficult to figure out! I can’t read code and so I have no clue as to what happened to my title page. WordPress is NOT user friendly or easy enough to figure out, and there no way I’m going to upgrade to anything that doesn’t work right in the scaled down version!

Hi there!
Are you looking to change the image with the mountain and trees that’s on your homepage? If so, you will do it by editing the homepage, which is currently in drafts. Here is a direct link: https://wordpress.com/page/justjudi201436967.wordpress.com/5.
You’ll see that the image is a Cover Block (you have another one on your blog page). If you’re missing some changed on that page, you can also check the revisions, as explained here:

Hi,
Thank you for your response. No, the mountains and trees are just the stock photo that came with the site. I didn’t put that there. I had posted the same photo on my homepage as the one on the tiny thumbnail in the upper left hand corner, which when in edit mode when hovered over a text box says ‘block editor sidebar’. Why is that little thumbnail photo (of a canoe in front of a lake) still there and the photo I left on the homepage gone? Aren’t they supposed to be the same thing? When I look at the draft revisions and load one of them, even the oldest one shows no changes at all. I find that very strange. All that is left is the title. But why is that thumbnail up there then, lol. Really odd.
I’m thinking that I may not have saved the changes properly when i first created that page, but I know I clicked on ‘save draft’. I do NOT want anyone to be able to see anything on the site right now but people like yourself, the support group. I want to be able to play with all this for quite a while before I make anything public. Should I be clicking on ‘publish’ when I’m finished to keep the changes? What is the difference between ‘publish’ from ‘launch’, the latter of which I know will make the site public?
Oh, and one more question, if you don’t mind please. After the initial frustration and shock of facing the reality that am not going to be able to avoid the coding aspect of this process, I have decided I may as well learn a little, and maybe eventually, even more than a little. I might actually like it, lol. However, I am a complete noob to coding, and as much as I have been on computers my entire life, have managed to avoid coding < like the plague. I like to write, but coding never appealed to me, and probably because I just didn’t need to, or really want to. Now I’m finding a strange fascination with it, and wondering if I might begin to actually like it, if I just try it, like broccoli < and hey, it’ll be good for me, right?!! Question is, WHERE do I begin? Like, is there a book, ‘Coding for Dummies’ or something? Lol! Yeah, probably. I did read some of the WP articles and joined a couple of groups on FB, and know that HTML and CSS and PHP are probably what I want to look into first and prob. in that order; but, are there good (free) online courses that can get me started, then when I start to dog paddle I can maybe pay for a real class much later on down the road? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Anyway, thank you again for your reply and time. :-)

Ok, I figured something about about the little picture. It is called the ‘site icon’, which I discovered in the customizing site identity page. Ok, so now I know what the pic is called, but I have no idea how it got there, lol. I just posted that photo on my home page, I know I did, lol. I know I’m not going mad, lol! Oh well, at least I know what it is and how to change it, but I suppose I’ll just add that photo back to the homepage and proceed from there. I will try and pay closer attention to this page and then I’ll remember what I have done in the past. I’ve been so busy and distracted lately.
Would you recommend that I start another little page that I can just play around with and not have to be so self conscious or particular about everything? Like something is just for fun, and relatively inconsequential, not so much personal or profound autobiography stuff?

As your site has not been launched, only you and WordPress.com staff can access it.
You can still publish your posts and pages when you’re done. They will be published on the site, but again, nobody but you will be able to see it unless you launch it.Ok, so now I know what the pic is called, but I have no idea how it got there, lol. I just posted that photo on my home page, I know I did, lol.
I can’t trace all that you’ve done on the site, so I’m afraid I can’t answer that question, but I’m glad you figured out that was your Site Icon.
The only other image I see on your site is the one on a post blog that’s still in your drafts.I’m thinking you might like to join one of our free webinars to learn a little more about our platform. It’s a great way to see how to get the best out of your site. You can register from here:

You really don’t need any coding skills on WordPress.com, that’s the whole point of our platform :) If you’ve been looking for tutorials online, you might have watched some for self-hosted WordPress.org sites – that’s a whole different thing.
Here, on WordPress.com, the only code that might be useful is CSS, but you would need to upgrade to plan Premium, to be able to use it.
If you want to learn more, you can start here: https://wordpress.com/support/css-basics/.And if you would like to learn about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, you can have a look at this page:

Ok, thank you and thank you. I have read around 5 articles about support issues and the differences between the .com and .org versions. I think I understand pretty clearly now. I think I will eventually want to graduate to the .org version, but not quite yet. I also think I want to learn coding anyway, just because I think it’s something I have wanted to know, but was avoiding it and now I regret that. I have always been fascinated with the art of web design and maybe I just needed this inspiration to kick that notion into gear. It could open up an entirely new world for me.
Thank you again for the help, and for the webinar link. i will sign up!! :-)

You know what they say, it’s never too late :)
Good luck with your site and with your coding adventure!
