Can't log in

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,
I recently added word press in the back end of my blog but did not register my email address to it. I used the temporary log ins that were sent to me to log into the back end of my blog. Now the temporary log ins have expired and I can’t log into the admin area of my blog!
To further complicate things, I do have a word press account and it does recognise my blog name but it does not let me log into the blog. Probably because I first signed up for a word press account, didn’t do anything with it, and then added the wordpress plug in to my blog – but didn’t link it to my existing word press account!
Does anyone know how I can link the two now?!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Gargi

When we need Staff help with issues Volunteers cannot comprehend or resolve like this one we type modlook into the sidebar tags on our forum threads. I did that for you. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Then we subscribe to this thread so we are notified when they respond. • Hi there,

What is the site’s address, please?

We don’t issue temporary login credentials on WordPress.com, and it’s impossible to set up a WordPress.com site without a username account using your email first, so it sounds like you have a self-hosted site using the WordPress.org software.

On self-hosted sites the password is stored in the site database, and we have no access to that as the site is not on our servers. You can find the instructions to reset the password for a self-hosted site here:

    https://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password

You’ll need access to your site’s database and files to do that. For that access you need to contact support at your hosting provider.

To connect your site to your WordPress.com account you’ll need the Jetpack plugin. You can install that from the Plugins tab once you’ve regained access to the dashboard, and then you’ll be able to manage the site using your WordPress.com login credentials.

Thanks for the details. I’ll try that.

  • Okay, that domain is both registered and hosted with tsohost.co.uk, so you’ll need to contact them for the hosting control panel/FTP access you’ll need if the regular password reset option on your site doesn’t work.
