I’m trying to log in to post a comment at mysteristas.wordpress.com as [redacted]. It tells me I have to log into my wordpress.com account. But when i try, it tells me there is not account with that email address. Catch 22.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello? Any of those “happiness engineers” reading this? I need an answer and wordpress.com doesn’t seem to provide any way to contact you other than this forum. How do I get out of the catch 22 when I try to post a comment to a wordpress.com blog site?
-
-
That link is blank.
I’m at https://mysteristas.wordpress.com/wp-login.php. I had written a comment to a mysteristas blog, entered my address as [redacted].
I got this message:
“You’re trying to publish a comment as (email visible only to moderators and staff). You need to log in to that account before you can proceed.”Since I don’t have a password for an account with that name I tried reset password. But since I don’t have a wordpress.com acct with that email address, I couldn’t do that either. So why does WP.com tell me I have to log into that account, when I don’t have such an account?
When I try to use my ebever email address to make a comment at mysteristas.wordpress.com, why does WP even think I do have such an account? I should be able to post a comment with that email address without wp.com paying it any heed at all.
-
Hmm… that is weird. I checked the site account and verified that it doesn’t require a WordPress.com account to comment. Also, you are right. The email you provided is not connected to an account.
I want to see if you can try one thing – this may be some weird cache issue since you do have a WordPress.com account. Have you tried logging in using a different browser or clearing your browser’s cache and trying to comment?
Let me know if anything changes when trying those two options.
Thanks,
-
I did “clear history” under Safari Preferences, restarted Safari, got the same result:
“You are being asked to login because [email address] is used by an account you are not logged into now.”
Doesn’t make any sense. Did there may used to be an account with that email? Or maybe somehow because my website uses Akismet and Jetpack? But that’s all under this account with a different email address, far as I know.
PS–isn’t there a way this whole discussion can be taken off the forum (and deleted from here) into more secure email? I hate to have all my laundry out in public like this.

Hi there,
WordPress.com support for free sites and accounts is handled in these forums. There’s no personal information visible as our system automatically hides the email address you shared.
Can you please try commenting through a different browser and see if that makes any difference?
-
Yup–I get the same result with Opera, which is a browser is hardly ever used and I just made sure by having it delete all history, cache etc.
Somewhere, somehow wp.com must have that ebever email address linked with a wp.com/akismet account? But then why won’t it let me reset a password for it?
-
Are you using any ad/tracker blockers, including browser settings that would block cross-site tracking?
If so, would you please try with those off?
-
I deleted all Website data, deleted all history, turned off autofill, turned of adblock, closed all other tabs. Restarted Safari. Same old problem.
I think I’ll just have to use a different email address next time I want to post something. Seems very peculiar.
-
In Safari, try switching off “Prevent cross-site tracking,” then sign out of WordPress.com and back in.
Is there any improvement?
-
That setting doesn’t exist in Sierra. Seems to have come in with High Sierra. I’ve tried “Allow all cookies.”
Could there have been a previous wp.com acct with that email address? Would that still be somewhere in the bowels of wp.com?
-
No users here with that email address.
Do you have any luck with a different browser, like Firefox? https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
-
It’s got to be something in your system that links that email address to my account.
I just went into a Windows box where I almost surely have never logged into wordpress.com and I got the same response when I tried to post. Somewhere, somehow you system is linking this address to an existing or a deleted (but somehow cached) wordpress.com account. If it’s not something in one of your caches, then it’s really scary that that email address is linked to my account.
I’m giving up. Too late to post the comment anyway.

I think I figured it out, @ebever15. That email account is an extra address on another account’s Gravatar. Does that ring a bell?
If so, you can log out and log back in with that account, then you can remove it from the Gravatar at Gravatar.com under emails.
If you can’t remember it, let us know; I think we could email you directly at that address to confirm you want to remove it from the Gravatar.
