Can't move my subscribers

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi there. I’ve tried to move my subscribers from my WordPress.com site to my WordPress.org site (www.janelawler.net). I’ve installed Jetpack and followed your guide and tried troubleshooting, to no avail. I’d be grateful if you could assist. Also, I have inserted Adsense code into my blog and the ad has been blank for ages. Do you know if I’ve done something wrong? I’m keen to get it up and running. Thanks so much.

    Hi there,

Sorry for the trouble moving your subscribers! I can certainly do that for you. Before I do, though, I want to make sure Jetpack is set up and connected properly. Can you please disconnect Jetpack from your WordPress.com account and then reconnect it? That will help make sure your subscribers are moved to the right place.

Once they are moved, your email subscribers will continue to receive email updates, and your WordPress.com followers will continue to see your new posts in the Reader. If your WordPress.com followers would like to receive email updates, as well, they can subscribe via email on your new blog.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that! Once you’ve disconnected and reconnected Jetpack, let me know and I’ll go ahead and move those subscribers.

Also, I have inserted Adsense code into my blog and the ad has been blank for ages. Do you know if I’ve done something wrong? I’m keen to get it up and running.

If you’re having trouble with the setup on your WordPress.org site, you can get more help with that from the WordPress.org support forums here:

    http://wordpress.org/support/

Since that’s separate from Jetpack and WordPress.com, there’s not much the support staff here at WordPress.com can do to help fix that for you there.

    Hi rachelmcr

Thanks so much for getting back to me! I’ve done the Jetpack thing as you suggest. I did attempt to move across the subscribers again, but I’m not sure I’ve done this successfully.

Also, in the usual course would one cancel the wordpress.com account or ensure that readers are sent to the new .org one? (Or does this happen automatically?)

    Apologies for all the questions!

Thanks re Adsense – I’ll look into it.

    Regards : )

I checked your subscribers, and you did move them over successfully. Nice work — you’re all set with that! :)

Also, in the usual course would one cancel the wordpress.com account or ensure that readers are sent to the new .org one? (Or does this happen automatically?)

Right now, since you have your domain janelawler.net linked to your WordPress.com blog, anyone who tries to visit that blog (either at your domain janelawler.net or using the free WordPress.com address janelawler.wordpress.com) will be redirected to your new WordPress.org blog. As long as that upgrade is active, all your visitors will be redirected.

Without that upgrade, only visitors who visit your domain janelawler.net will find your new WordPress.org blog. Anyone using the free address at janelawler.wordpress.com wouldn’t get there. If you don’t think anyone is using that address to get to your blog, you probably don’t need to keep the upgrade or WordPress.com blog around. I hope that helps clarify it! :) If you have any other questions, just let me know.
