Can't type in a widget

  I want to add type into a widget on the sidebar (I’m using Twenty Fifteen theme) so that people can click on that and see longer texts of explanation – I assume it will take them away from the front page. I followed the instructions which say, go to Appearance and Widget and I will get a box that shows where I can put a title and add text. But that never happens. When I do Appearance, Widget – I get a gray sheet that is titled Widgets and subtitled Available Widgets and gives me a bunch of choices – ex: About.mewidgets – Archives – Authors – Blogs I Follow, etc. What am I doing wrong?   You’re on the correct page. Choose a text widget from the available widgets and drag it over to a sidebar area. Add your text, creating a link to the destination page as described in the Text Widget Links support page. Then save.
