Can’t update to WordPress 5.0

  URGENT!
  Assistance for NON PROFESSIONAL Website user please.
  When I try to update to WordPress 5.0 I get the following error code: ‘An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now.’
  When I then try to repeat the update, I get:
  ‘Downloading update from https://downloads.wordpress.org/release/wordpress-5.0-new-bundled.zip…
  Unpacking the update…
  Could not create directory.
  Installation Failed’

  I cannot upload new images to my gallery media file,
  my email address is constantly returned
  Cannot update plugins /widgets

  WHY NOT??
  Please advise asap as this is affecting my professional platform for job applications and potential business opportunities.

  On what site are you working? The account you’re using to post here does not own any sites on WordPress.com.

  If you’re using the open source WordPress software at another host, please ask for help at https://wordpress.org/support/forums instead.
