categories

Hello, on my blog, wineconsumeur.wordpress.com, I noticed that I have several pages listed at the top of my page, under my header (Home, Wine Reviews, etc.). I believe that these are pages. I have gone through my posts and assigned categories, and then assigned category pages. Along the right hand side of my page, I find a link to my categories that allows me to shortcut to these specific blog postings. However, the links/pages at the top of the site are not taking me to my categorized postings. My goal is to use the pages/links at the top of my page to direct the reader to my categorized blog posts. I have read the support page for category pages along with many others. This has not yet provided me with a solution. I would really appreciate your help! Thank you!

You’ll need to create a custom menu. You can do this through your dashboard at Appearance > Menus.

    https://wineconsumeur.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php

It looks like currently you’ve created three different menus. But I think you meant to add these as menu items in your one menu. You can add items to a menu using the selectors on the left. You can add those Category Pages by selecting “Categories” on the left and checking the boxes next to the ones you want to add as items in your menu.

Here’s some more information about custom menus:

Let me know if you need more help with that.

    Shawna,

Thank you for your response! It is safe to say that I should delete my 3 menus and start from the beginning? I need to create just 1 menu and then add my categories to this one menu?

Originally, I created several pages, which show up at the top of my blog. When I click on the pages title, it takes me to the page. What I wanted to do was to create multiple posts within my pages. I wanted all of my wine reviews to fall under the wine reviews page, etc. I set up categories for each with this intention. The menu piece is where I am getting confused. I thought that I could create menus for each of my categories instead of pages and this would allow me to organize my various posts. Does this make sense? Maybe I am going about this the wrong way.

    Thanks again!!

Makes perfect sense! I know the system for setting this up can be a little confusing. Here’s what I would do:

    1. Delete two of your current menus.
    2. Name the menu you’re keeping something descriptive like ‘Primary’ so you know what its purpose is.
    3. Add the menu items you want to that one menu.

With that, does the Category Pages support doc make more sense now?

You’re totally on the right track! The set up for these pages is a little different than your normal page; it can be confusing.

Let me know how I can help. :)
