"Change Blog Address" to formerly deleted address / Retrieve deleted address

  I would like to change my wordpress URL “bangkokbabble.wordpress.com” to “worldbabble.wordpress.com”.

  Unaware of the possibility to change the name directly from the Dashboard, I had registered “worldbabble.wordpress.com” separately many months ago in order to migrate my bangkokbabble contents there. When I found out that a simple name change can be done instead, I cancelled my separate worldbabble blog so I could use the – now free – name for the name change. However, since months WordPress does not let me because “that address is taken”, even though it is actually deleted and available. What to do?

  Deleted is deleted, never to be reused, not even by the person who deleted it. The deletion process is very clear about this and you had to confirm several times that you understand that a deleted site is not retrievable.

  You’ll have to pick another address.

  Thanks Jennifer – I did read the instructions but had understood it as “when you delete it the address can be picked by someone else and may thus not be retrievable”. Of course that was apparently wishful thinking, my mistake. Anyway thanks for the quick reply!
