Change domain, lost content

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello. I recently changed my domain and didnt realize that it caused I couldn’t access my old posts from any search engine. The old posts in the old domain became no longer available and the screen displayed the authors have deleted this site.

I still have all the posts since I have the account but when I typed any title of my old posts in search engine, it wasnt there. I thought changing the domain name didnt have anything to do with the post. Can you help with this? Is there any way to make my old post appear with my new domain?

    Thank you.

  • Hi there,

None of your content has been lost – everything is still on your WordPress.com site, just at the new address, https://apennyformypensieve.wordpress.com/. If you go to My Site ->Site ->Posts in the dashboard you’ll still see all your posts listed there. The only thing that has changed is what you type into your browser to access them.

It’s not appearing in search results online because Google and other search engines will first need to re-index it at the new address. This will take a few weeks, after which your posts will start appearing in searches again as before.

The old posts in the old domain became no longer available and the screen displayed the authors have deleted this site.

That is correct. Your posts are now found at the new address, no longer at the old one. The old address was disabled when you changed it, so links referencing the old address will no longer work.

    Hello,

Thank you so much for the reply.

Just quick question, after few weeks, for example, if I type the same keywords about my most searched post, would it appear directly to my new domain?

    Thanks a lot.

Yes, this is what will happen when Google finishes reindexing your site. In most cases, Google understands that it’s the same site and the indexing process might be a bit faster.
