change domain name

  Hi WordPress,
  I want to change my (wordpress) website from http://www.maaikevanlankeren.com into http://www.monks.net.
  Can you help me with that?
  I can’t find how to do this..

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hi there,

  When you register a domain name like maaikevanlankeren.com, you’re purchasing the right to use that exact domain name with your site. To change your site’s domain, you’ll need to register the new domain name you want to start using.

  However, the domain name monks.net is already registered. Here’s the publicly available information about that domain name:

  http://who.is/whois/monks.net

  Do you already own that domain name? If not, you’ll need to choose a different domain name to use with your site. Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

  I just bought the new domain http://www.monks.net today, but I now see as you said that it is already registered.. strange that I did not receive a notification from wordpress about that.
  How can I know if a domain name is already registered? (except from searching by google)
  I will now try to cancel http://www.monks.net..

  I totally don’t understand it anymore… how can I cancel http://www.monks.net or is there any possibility to keep/get it?

  Hi there,

  Sorry for the confusion. I see that you mapped http://www.monks.net to one of your sites — I just canceled and refunded that purchase for you. Unless you already own that domain name, it isn’t possible to use it (since someone else already owns that domain).

  You can register a new domain from the Domains page here:

  https://wordpress.com/domains/register/

  If the domain you want to use is already registered by someone else, the form there will let you know when you search for it.

  Since the word “monks” is a common word, I’d recommend creating a longer domain name that combines it with another word. For example, the domain name monkssieraden.com is available.
