change domain name for blog
-
I just set up my first blog. I used my WordPress username for everything including the new domain name. Now it seems too self-serving to use my own name as the domain name. If I register a new domain name can I point that new domain to the blog I already set up? I don’t want to have to build a whole new blog with the new name if I don’t have to. I see in the store that I can register a new domain, but i worried that might create a new blog. I want my current blog, I just want to use a different domain name to get to it.

Hi there, you have a couple of options:
1) Since you just registered the domain yesterday, and domains are refundable for up to 48 hours, you could cancel it and get a refund. Just keep in mind that if you cancel your newly-registered domain, it can take up to several weeks for our domain registrar to release the domain, and we can’t guarantee that your domain will be available to you again once canceled. To cancel the domain, go to Store > My Upgrades in your dashboard. Locate the domain you want to cancel in the list, and click on the Cancel and Refund link near to it. This cannot be undone, so please follow the on-screen instructions carefully before you confirm the cancellation.
2) Alternatively, you could simply register and map a second domain, and set it as the primary domain, so it’s the domain folks would see in the browser’s address bar when visiting your site. The first domain would still work, but no one would see it, or even know it exists, if you didn’t give it out or use it anywhere.
Let me know if you have any questions about the options or need any help.

Thank you. Option 2 worked perfectly for me. I was afraid that would create a new and different blog, but I see how it works now. Thanks for the help.
