Change profile image?

Clicking on ‘Update Profile Photo’ leads to a Gravatar website with 1990s-style links. WTF?! I just want to upload a profile image from my computer. For some reason the old profile image disappeared.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
Clicking on ‘Update Profile Photo’ leads to a Gravatar website with 1990s-style links. WTF?! I just want to upload a profile image from my computer.
Do you mean this page: https://secure.gravatar.com/site/wpcom/? This page: http://en.gravatar.com/profiles/new-image?
Have you tried uploading an image at one of these pages? -
Thanks for responding. The “Update Profile Photo” link leads to https://secure.gravatar.com/site/login
This webpage is not what users would normally expect to see after clicking “Update Profile Photo” – should be a dialogue box allowing me to choose an image file on my computer.
I have not tried to upload anything via this page, which is unbelievably primitive in design and content and which, frankly, carries a whiff of phishing.
It is thoroughly unclear to me what relationship to WordPress this page has and what it is intended to do other than provide some hyperlinks.
I have zero interest in creating a new account on “Gravatar” just to change my WordPress profile image. I’d sooner do without a profile image or leave WordPress -
It occurred to me that I may be seeing a different web page rendering than others (It looks like a web page from 1995) I took a snapshot of my browser screen to share here but there appears to be no way to add images to these posts. Nuts!

The “Update Profile Photo” link leads to https://secure.gravatar.com/site/login
That link leads to the Manage Gravatars page for me, since I’m logged in, https://secure.gravatar.com/emails. Perhaps that’s the page you’re aiming for.
The fact that you’re getting a login page indicates either that you’re not logged in, or that Gravatar thinks you’re not logged in. There have been a rash of complaints about unexpected and undue login requests at Gravatar lately. I think you’ll need staff to resolve this issue for you. I’ll tag the topic to call for staff attention.I took a snapshot of my browser screen to share here but there appears to be no way to add images to these posts.
You can include a screenshot in a post here. You may upload it to your media library, and post the URL of the image here, or use a third party service such as Snaggy, or one of these alternatives.

@privacynewshighlights feel free to upload a screenshot to Cloudup.
Are you using anything that could be blocking parts of Gravatar? The 1990s style sounds like it’s not loading your CSS. Another user complained today and I noticed their ad blocker was blocking things.

Hi musicdoc1 and supernovia
I use a Ghostery browser plugin to prevent unwanted tracking on the Internet. The fact that Gravatar is identified as a tracker (‘widget’) and blocked automatically tells me volumes about what kind of site/service it is. Not interested at all in Gravatar.I won’t bother going through the hassle of uploading a screenshot (the last thing I want right now is another account that I will never use again!).
My original task was quite simple: add an image from my computer to my WordPress public profile (the old one disappeared for some reason). This sort of task is a very common and straightforward one. I shouldn’t need to subscribe to a third party service to do this!!
This experience suggests to me that WordPress is pushing its users to use their WordPress identity as a federated logon across the web. No thanks!

Agreed. But when I mentioned “third party service,” I was referring only to a service which allows you share screen shots online. It is just an option to uploading the screen shot to your media library and providing the image URL here.

It normally is an easy task to accomplish on a WordPress.com site. The idea of providing a screen shot to illustrate the peculiar “web page from 1995” you’ve encountered at Gravatar is something you suggested, and it’s only purpose would be as an aid in diagnosing the issue you described.

@privacynewshighlights the purpose of Gravatar is to help you get a globally recognized avatar that will work on any of the millions of sites that support it. It sounds like the purpose of Ghostery is to prevent you from being recognized on the web, so I can see how these would be in conflict.
If you don’t want a Gravatar, please note, blocking the website does not remove any existing avatars from your account. I’d recommend unblocking the site and removing the image. If you want to be sure to block everyone else’s avatars from appearing too, you can go ahead and re-block the site. If you do want one, I’m sure ghostery has an option to make an exception. Best of luck!
