Change the name of an already registered custom domain (.com) in wordpress

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi. I have just registered for a custom domain (.com) a week back.
I have found that the name I used is too long, “animusmedicalmindmaps.com”
is it possible to change it to “zalamedical.com instead?”
Its inspiration from the first two alphabets of both my parents. :) I would really appreciate if it could be changed.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

When you register a custom domain name, you’re purchasing the right to use that exact name on your site. The domain name you own can’t be changed — the only way to use a different custom domain name is to register it as a new domain. (If you change your mind or notice a typo in the domain name, you can cancel the domain for a full refund within the 48-hour cancellation period and then register the new domain you want.)

You’re welcome to have more than one domain linked to the same site, if you’d like to keep your existing domain and register the new one you mentioned. In that case, each domain will work and the primary domain will be the one visitors see.

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)

Thank you. That was very helpful.

I guess the best option for me would be to purchase a new domain at $18 a year and perhaps transfer the current domain if the opportunity ever arrives. It is past 48 hours, it as been a full week. So I doubt I can get a refund now.

    Thanks again.

That’s true. There’s no way for us to refund that purchase now. Sorry about that.

Let me know if we can help with anything else!
