Changed email address still not working

    I changed the email associated with my wordpress account but when I try to use my old email address to comment on other blogs it keeps telling me the email is already associated with another account. The email change was successful, like I got my conformation email and my profile lists the new email address as the one associated with this account, but when I try to use my old email for anything on this sit takes me to the login page. I’ve read that this shouldn’t be a problem if you changed the email address associated with your account. Can anyone help?

    It would be great if you could confirm a couple of things for me:

    • The new email address that should be on your audreyrosser account
    • The old email address you are referring to

    The email addresses in your reply will be redacted from public view but I will be able to see that information.

    Once I know more, I’ll look into this for you.

    Thanks — the old email address is no longer connected to a WordPress.com account. Can you send a link to a couple of the blogs you are trying to leave comments on?

  • Hi there,

    Are you logged out or logged into this account when trying to comment with that email? If you’re logged in, or you logged out but your browser didn’t properly clear cookies so that site thinks you’re still logged in.

    To comment on a site using that email you’ll need to be logged out of WordPress.com, and also clear your browser cookies for good measure.

    If I have multiple “People” on my web browser do I have to clear the cookies for those to? Because otherwise clearing cookies doesn’t seem to have solved the problem.

  • What do you mean ‘multiple “People” on my web browser’? Are you referring to user profiles? If so, then information stored in one user profile should not affect the behaviour of the browser while you’re using a different user profile.

    Can you please open the site in an incognito window in Chrome and check if you’re able to comment then?

    Yes that’s what I was talking about.

    I tried commenting incognito and it still isn’t working.

    What exactly happens? Do you see an error message? Does the comment just fail to post?

    Went on incognito mode, went to the link, tried to comment, didn’t work.

  • Your comment just came through on my site.

    It appears when you changed your address, the new address was never properly set in your Gravatar profile, and as a result the old one was never properly removed. I added the old address back, and then deleted it, and that appears to have reset things. The old “turn it off and back on again” trick :)
