Changed email and password, but have to sign in with old info! Grrr!

So my old email address may have been compromised and I have spent all day wrestling with wordpress, trying to get my settings changed with a new email address and password. It will send the confirmation email to the new address. I click on the link and save the changes. Then I go back to wordpress and it does not recognize the new email address or password when I sign in. Had to use the old one just to get on here! This is killing me! There wasn’t this much drama dealing with my bank! What am I doing wrong?

I still had to sign in with my old email address and it still says the change is pending.
