Changing 3 existing domains within 3 existing Sites
-
Hello,
we have 3 existing sites with have each a corresponding domain:
– Site content A) with domain 1) gerichtekueche.org (rent a kitchen for kids)
– Site content B) with domain 2) gerichtekueche-mieten.org (Mietküche / Rent a kitchen)
– Site content C) with domain 3) gerichtekoeche.wordpress.com (Intro-Site)Now we want to have a change in the corresponding domains like this:
– Site content A) should get domain 3) gerichtekoeche.wordpress.com (rent a kitchen for kids)
– Site content B) stays domain 2)
– Site content C) should get domain 1) gerichtekueche.org (Intro-Site)Who can we make it possible to do that change in the near future?
Thanks for your advise!
Team GerichtekücheThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I can help you with that.
However, can you please use specific _______.wordpress.com URL’s in your request, rather than “Site content A” designation? This will ensure that we are both talking about the same thing and reduce the chance for confusion.

Hi rootjosh,
sure:
– Site A) gerichtekueche.wordpress.com should get domain 3) gerichtekoeche.wordpress.com (rent a kitchen for kids)
– Site B) gerichtekuechemieten.wordpress.com stays the same domain
– Site gerichtekoeche.wordpress.com should get domain 1) gerichtekueche.wordpress.com (Intro-Site)Thanks in advance
Team Gerichteküche -
So here’s the issue, ______.wordpress.com URLs cannot be easily “switched” one for the other. You can change a site’s ______.wordpress.com URL to something else. But the old _______.wordpress.com URL cannot be re-used.
Now, custom domains can be moved between sites. So if you have gerichtekueche.org pointing at one wordpress.com site and you want it to point to a different wordpress.com site, that is an easy switch.
But switching the underlying ______.wordpress.com URLs requires a lot of exporting and importing.
-
So the the switching is too much effort means really not included as a service? Just to ask again about the possibility.
With my little knowledge I heard about the possibility of redirecting a page via the meta tag http-equiv=”refresh” or changing the A-Record of the domain … wouldn’t this be possible? If possible we would prefer the last one.
Otherwise we would have to change the content manually on each side.

It really isn’t. In order to do what you want to do, you would need to export the content from both sites, then import that content into the site where you wish it to exist.
There is no other way to switch names of WordPress.com sites while retaining the content. The meta tag or A-record would not apply here, unless I am misunderstanding what you are asking.
-
Hi!
Wouldn’t make a change of the A-Record the same result?
Let me try to explain it the other way around:
The domain 1 (gerichtekueche.wordpress.com) should get to the server-content that at the moment is seen when you go to the domain 3 (gerichtekoeche.wordpress.com). And the domain 3 should get to the server-content that is seen when you go to the domain 1.Thank you very much!

You can switch custom domain names without any trouble. So you can easily make gerichtekueche.org point to gerichtekueche.wordpress.com or to gerichtekoeche.wordpress.com or to any other WordPress.com site that you own.
But to switch the underlying _______.wordpress.com URLs requires exporting and importing of content.
