Okay I retract that. Why would you bother having a domain mapping upgrade to a pretty URL replaced with a lengthy old fashioned redunant URL with uneccesary characters?
www is an old protocol from back when everything was under separate server hardware. www (www.example.com) was the web server, mail (mail.example.com) was the mail server, ftp (ftp.example.com) was the FTP server, print (print.example.com) was the print server, etc.
These days, everything is run under the web server, making www. redundant and a waste of four characters.

So everyones web address in the search browser is like that?
Also, how do I change my wordpress.com site/account to a self-hosted one? I think I have to delete my current site a start again but I’m not completely sure.
Thanks

P.S. I strongly suggest your remove the Twitter hashtag from the site title. Including and special characters in a site title or post or page title is not wise as it confuses search spiders. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2013/07/21/avoid-special-character-use-in-titles-and-tags/
The Site title and/or the optional Tagline can be changed on the top of this page at any time. > Settings > General
“save changes”That is exactly where search engine spiders look for the site title and removing it from there or injecting special characters that do not belong in it can cause issues with getting your content indexed.

WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate.
http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/1. Hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/
2. Set up a WordPress.org install and equip it with a theme and plugins.
3. Purchase a site redirect upgrade from wordpress.com
http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/
4. Export your content out of your WordPress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/ and import it into the install.
5. Transfer subscribers and stats. See http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/moving-your-subscribers/WordPress.com and WordPress.org have different log-ins and run different versions of themes with same names. If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

3. Purchase a site redirect upgrade from wordpress.com
http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/As you already have domain mapping if you purchased your domain through WordPress.com then see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-management/

Just to clarify do you that I should remove the hashtag from even my site title on the from page. I have already removed it from Settiings>General
Thanks for all your help.

Hi Kelvin,
As timethief mentioned, WordPress.com automatically removes the “www” from all domains. You can read more about that here: Register a New Domain
Also, if you are interested in moving to a self-hosted WordPress.org site, the links timethief provided have a lot of great information that may help you with the process. We also have instructions for moving to WordPress.org here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org
Please let me know if I can help with anything else!

Hi Rachel,
Thanks for your help. I’m trying to become a web developer and as you can see I’m in the early stages. I made my decision this week so I’m just trying throw myself in the deep end. Wish me luck!
If you anything web development and what I need to know and what I need to get that would be great. Bare in mind that I’ve just realised that I need to find a good web hosting. My friend recommended http://www.media temple.com but I’m not even sure what kind of services that I need.
Thanks
Kelvin
