Changing Custom Domains.

  • Unknown's avatar

My client purchased his own domain and connected it to his wordpress.com site. Yes, he paid the WordPress.com fee to go to premium to have the ability to do that.

Now, he has purchased another domain name that he wishes to use INSTEAD of the one currently in use. However, does he have to pay the fee AGAIN, there seems to be no other way to swap-out custom domains.

    Please advise. Thank you.

That is NOT the blog that I need help with, but I cannot change it.

  • Hi there,

That is NOT the blog that I need help with

Can you please tell me the site you need help with? It’s impossible to help if you don’t provide that information.

I see no upgrades in your account. To make changes to a plan I need the request to come from the username that owns the upgrade, so please ask your client to reply here and to provide all relevant details, e.g. the exact URL of the site and the specific domains involved.

  • Thank you for the link, but as I said above, I’ll need your client to post here and tell me exactly what they want to do. I cannot make changes to an upgrade in another account at your request.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. This was NOT a request for you to make any changes, but for someone to tell us HOW to do it. I know you cannot make changes to an account with implicit ownership, we just wanted a path to doing so.

I thought that we were overlooking a setting to change out premium domain names without paying again. That was all that I was asking.

I will have the owner post with his new domain.

This is why I never recommend WordPress.com–only WordPress.org

    Thank you

  • To switch out domains in a plan you need staff assistance, and for that I need the upgrade owner to request the change. You cannot do it yourself.

I need help with making domain switches:

fromthegroundup.guru needs to become the primary domain, linked with fromthegroundupgurublog.wordpress.com

and once fromthegroundupguru.wordpress.com is unlinked with fromthegroundup.guru, I’ll add in alisoncrouch.com to fromthegroundupguru.wordpress.com.

Sorry for the domain name similarity/confusion but I need to figure this switch out!

In future, please start your own thread. If you post into someone else’s thread, not only do they get an email notification of each new reply, but we don’t have any of your account information at hand and need to go search for your account in our system before we can help you.

I’ve unlinked fromthegroundup.guru from the current site and restored the free domain credit in your plan.

Please go to My Site ->Switch Site and select the correct site. Then click on Domains ->Add to add the domain. Repeat this with the second site.

Let me know if you need any more help with this :)
