Changing domain with a free site

  Hi. I want to pay for a custom domain to take out the .wordpress of my URL, but I am only on a free plan. Do i need to buy a plan to get a custom domain, or can I buy them separately?

  Hi there,

  You can buy a domain without upgrading to a plan, but then the domain will only redirect people to your site at the free address.

  If you want the custom domain to actually be the domain people see in their browsers, that will require one of our paid plans.
