changing extension name

I am just setting this up and used .blog as an extension name, which I have now decided I would like to change. Advise please.
Do I have to use a prescribed extension name or can I use my own e.g. .refs?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

To use your own custom domain rather than the free address we gave you, you’ll need to upgrade to one of our paid plans.
Before you can register a domain with a particular extension, that extension needs to be supported by a domain registry and then you’ll also need a registrar(domain provider) that’s accredited to sell that particular extension.
You can see a list of all the domain extensions we sell on WordPress.com here:
If you want to use a domain with a different extension you’ll have to register it somewhere else and then map it here instead:

But you will not be able to use .refs, because that domain extension does not exist on the web and no domain provider is able to sell a domain with that extension.
