Changing from a WordPress.com to a WordPress.org
-
I’m just wondering if at some point I can change from wordpress.com to .org.
Like if I decide to purchase hosting and I want the benefits of wordpress.org, can I upload all my posts from my .com blog to my .org and keep them with all their features, etc? Or must the two be kept separate?Sorry if my question is a bit confusing >:
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes you can change – your content is exported from .COM and imported to your .ORG install

If you are going to make this move then I suggest reading these entries:
domain mapping
move to wordpress.org
export/import linksNote 1: The page rank and the authority your WordPress.com blog URLs earn belong to those URLs and cannot be transferred. It’s in your best interest to purchase a domain name and domain mapping upgrade as soon as possible as you do intend to move the content.
Note 2: You cannot export the theme you use here at WordPress.com. Themes by the same name here at WordPress.com and at WordPress.org are coded to run on different software. Likewise if you purchase a premium theme it cannot be exported. All content in text widgets must be copied and pasted.

Alright, was going to buy a domain anyways and get that done.
Thank you again Timethief for your help (this is the second time you’ve answered one of my question threads). -
It’s truly in your best interest to purchase a domain name and domain mapping from the get go. What it provides is a seamless transfer of your visitors who click the root .wordpress.com sub-domain URLs for the domain URLs. When you do move the blog you will witness a drop in page rank no matter what you do in terms of SEO.
Page rank belongs to the original .wordpress.com sub-domain URLs that earned the page rank. When we purchased domain mapping we purchase a seamless redirection of visitors only. It takes about 4 – 6 months for the search engines to re-index the posts. As they do that the posts will appear under the new domain URLs in the SERPs, and gradually the original URLs will disappear from the SERPs. Also be aware that being hosted here means that we draw lots of Google juice from WordPress.com which has great SEO and a very high page rank, and that is gone when we move a blog into a self hosted install.
