changing from Serif to wordpress website
-
Hi guys, I’m trying to go from an old (self-designed) architecture website created through Serif to a wordpress site. The Serif site is clunky in a lot of ways but I like the organization of information and I haven’t found anything that seems similar in the wordpress themes. I’d appreciate some advice

Hi @karbellam, could you send a link to the existing site? We may be able to suggest some themes that could give you similar effects.

Ah, you can do that with almost any theme, the basics being having a menu up to top and a big image on the front page.
This is my favorite set to recommend for folks who are unsure which themes to try: https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/accessibility-ready+responsive-layout
These themes adapt to any screen size, and they are accessibility-ready, meaning folks with limited vision can browse them easily with screen readers.
Of that set, these 4 are fairly similar to the structure of your original site:
https://wordpress.com/theme/shawburn
https://wordpress.com/theme/stow
https://wordpress.com/theme/redhill
https://wordpress.com/theme/didi
All but Didi are free.
As for that front page, what you’ll want to do is first of course set a from page https://wordpress.com/support/pages/front-page/ and then set an Image Block as its sole content: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/image-block/
