Changing from theme

  • Unknown's avatar

Last year I made my first and only website in WordPress, which I now want to change the content of.
I have chosen a theme and I also know how to create new pages.
But as soon as I install and activate a theme, it immediately takes over the content/information of my ‘old website’.
Is there a way to choose a new theme and completely rebuild each page?

Are there any useful tips for this or is there a guide or a video that explains this?

    Hi there,

Is there a way to choose a new theme and completely rebuild each page?

Please clarify: you need to keep content of all pages despite changed Theme, or a new Theme shall rebuild your pages?

But as soon as I install and activate a theme, it immediately takes over the content/information of my ‘old website’.

Please tell us what information of your site is affected and what Theme do you install?

Normally ALL your content shall stay untouched, new Theme may only create a new home page with new content. If that is a case, you need to assign your old home page to be the “home page” instead of a new page that Theme has created. Here is manual how to do that: https://wordpress.com/support/pages/front-page/#step-2-set-a-static-front-page

Some tips on changing a theme on WordPress.com is here:

We look forward to hearing from you.

Hey Maksimurasov, thank you for answering!
I think I’m having issues with exactly what you wrote: The new Theme modified the home page in a way that I don’t want and there are certain items that I couldn’t change when editing the page.

I’m trying to use the Bravada theme.

Thank you for the 2 links! Gonna dive into the one about Static pages in a bit.

I will let know here if I solved my problem!!

    Hi @writeonmailbox,

Thank you for providing the additional info!

I see Bravada Theme has really powerful home page- there are many text areas and slider, featured content etc. As long as Theme controls the home page, you have to go through all menu items that are marked “BR” in My Site > Appearance > Customize. Here you can disable the Theme generated content that is not necessary for you.

But I have to mention, that this theme is not created by WordPress.com and your website is most probably not hosted on WordPress.com (we are now on WordPress.com forum). In this case the best help on the current Bravada Theme can be get here: https://wordpress.org/support/theme/bravada/#new-post.

    Hope that helps.

    Hey Maksimurasov,
It took a few days and I’m not done yet. But your tip helped me in any case so I could continue.
Sorry to ask a question about another Theme in this forum, I had no idea that all those things were separate. So thanks for pointing that out!

Either way, you helped me a lot! I appreciate it

I guess you used a theme along with its data using theme data importer. Now when you are changing the theme its data also gets deactivated.
But your pages will still be there so check all pages section and design your interface again
