changing my wordpress site URL
-
Hi. I have had a WordPress site hosted on HostGator. I realized that I wanted to shorten the URL. In WordPress, I went into settings-general and changed the site URL. Then I went to HostGator to purchase the new domain. After I did that, when I typed the new URL into a browser, the WordPress site didn’t appear. I went back in to WordPress and went to settings-general. This time I also changed the website URL address to the same site. I realized that I shouldn’t have done that. Now, I can’t access my original WordPress admin page. Also, when I type in the new URL, it takes me to a brand new WordPress with nothing in it. How can I get back into my original WordPress admin page? Also, how can I get this original WordPress site to come up when I put the new address into my browser?

I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble. However, you have a self-hosted WordPress.org site, which we really can’t help with.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
WordPress.org has complete documentation and support sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at http://codex.wordpress.org/ and http://wordpress.org/support/ Your webhost’s support team is another good resource.
