changing registrars

  Our site is currently hosted through 1and1. We want to switch to wordpress. I understand wordpress does not accept incoming change of registrars. We can map to our ould website domain name.

  But we want to cancel our account through 1&1 and register our name and host with WordPress. How do we do that?

  Do we have to cancel and wait for the name to be “available” then register it with wordpress?

  DON’T CANCEL ANYTHING!!!!!!!!! There is no way to guarantee that you can re register your domain name and it will be out of service for 60 days or more and might be grabbed by a squatter and held for ransom.

  You can transfer to another registrar if you want – many out there – some of my friends use Name Cheap
