Changing the blog name

Hey,
I am trying to change my blog address to my first choice. I completely deleted my first choice of name, but then I figured I wanted to use the web address of the old one (which is now deleted, it even says so when I enter it into my address bar) instead of the new name. I regretted that I changed it in the first place. However, when I try to change my current web address to the name I had used on the now deleted blog, I am told the URL is already taken and I can’t use it. Do I have to wait a few hours or something for it to kick in that that name is now available, or what? I’m pretty sure I discarded the name when I deleted the blog so I don’t understand what’s going on.
