changing the site url
-
I need to change the site url for our blog. Can this be done in a way that current followers will still receive new published posts and also not require me to transfer all of our existing/archived posts?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
You can change your blog address by going to My Blogs, and clicking the Change Blog Address link that appears when you hover over the address you want to change:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/my-blogs/
Note that you have the option to choose your user name to match the new blog address. If you choose this option, you will not be able to revert back to the original username, and it can affect profile URLs for other services such as Gravatar or IntenseDebate.
For detailed instructions/information on changing your blog name, please visit our support document:

Can this be done in a way that current followers will still receive new published posts and also not require me to transfer all of our existing/archived posts?
Yes, it can – no content will change if you were to change the site URL.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!

Thank you for the response and info, Darnelle.
I reviewed the steps in the support document and want to clarify. If I change just the site url that comes before “.wordpress.com” will I need to purchase the Site Redirect to ensure that existing followers continue to receive new posts when they are published?
It is not a problem, I just need a seamless transition from the followers perspective and will do whatever is necessary. It is not feasible to contact everyone directly with a new url.
Please advise/confirm.
Thanks!

Hi there,
If I change just the site url that comes before “.wordpress.com” will I need to purchase the Site Redirect to ensure that existing followers continue to receive new posts when they are published? No, if you purchase a custom domain and set it up as the primary domain, your WordPress.com URL will automatically redirect to the custom domain. So, no need to purchase redirect in that instance.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks!
