Changing the width of the content

    Hi, I am so sorry for the total noob nature of this question but I am a self taught WordPress user with 2 weeks experience! I have created my blogs bare bones and feel that the column of text where the content is displayed is too narrow in the centre of the page. Is there a way to change this without adjusting the css, as to be honest, the thought of that terrifies me! Thanks in advance
