    Hello hgardella,

I have been trying to change my site beocmingyourmom.com from wordpress.org to wordpress.com.

What is the URL of the WordPress.com site you want to import your content to?

Let me know and I’ll take a look at what is happening.

Hi, I think my url was becomingyourmom.com

    Hello hgardella,

There is only one site in your account — becomingyourmom.com is a WordPress.org site. Do you have a WordPress.com site in another account, that you want to import the content into?

  • Unknown's avatar

I guess I don’t have a wordpress.com site I thought I could transform this domain name and site name becomingyourmom.com into a wordpress.com site. I’m really not understand how any of this works at this point. Sorry. This is my first time starting a website so I’m really lost. Why would I need two sites when I only want one?

hi gemmacevans. i just tried to find my domain name for wordpress.com through a google search… and it brought me to a message on wordpress that says “Domains are not available for this site. you can only purchase domains for sites hosted on wordpress.com at this time.” i paid for my wordpress site. i followed the set up questions with the anticipation that i would not need to host my own account. could you please explain why I now need to pay again for the wordpress.com site?

    thank you

Are you referring to this site at https://becomingyourmom.wordpress.com/ which has not been updated since September 11, 2015?

  • Unknown's avatar

hey timethief. no this isn’t my site. it looks like someone else had the domain name (for workpress.com) before me. how did this happen? when i signed up through bluehost/wordpress, the domain name was not taken and why would wordpress allow me to use the domain name if it already exists. the link to my site (which i want to be workpress.com not .org) is http://becomingyourmom.com/

who either of you be able to help me figure out how this happened? all of my set up emails are from “wordpress.com”

is there a phone number i can call a customer support line?

There is no phone support and Staff like gemmacevans always return to threads they have posted into until they are resolved. Please be patient while waiting.

    Hi hgardella,

Domains are not available for this site. you can only purchase domains for sites hosted on wordpress.com at this time

At the moment you only have a WordPress.org site in your account. This site is connected to your WordPress.com account using Jetpack. If you were to create a WordPress.com site, purchases would be added to that site.

it looks like someone else had the domain name (for workpress.com)

Which domain did you want to use?

I thought I could transform this domain name and site name becomingyourmom.com into a wordpress.com site.

Yes, you can do this! We have a guide with all the steps here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/

I appreciate this is a lot of information so let me know if you need more information about any of the steps.

    hi gemmacevans,

i appreciate the quick response. thanks for helpings. i want to use becomingyourmom.wordpress.com as my hosted site. if that is not available i will choose another domain name but if it is, i would like to keep it.

i have tried creating a word press.com site multiple times now and it will not convert using jetpack. i keep getting jetpack emails as if it worked but it will not. would you be able to convert it for me?

    thanks

    Hi hgardella,

i have tried creating a word press.com site multiple times now and it will not convert using jetpack.

WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two separate platforms. It won’t be possible to convert your existing WordPress.org site (becomingyourmom.com) into a WordPress.com site by using Jetpack. You can however, migrate from one platform to the other.

These are key steps needed to migrate your WordPress.org site to WordPress.com:

    1. Create a new site on WordPress.com — becomingyourmom.wordpress.com is already taken so you’ll need to choose a different address.

    2. Export the content from becomingyourmom.com and import it into the WordPress.com site you created.

    3. Use Domain Mapping to connect the domain, becomingyourmom.com, to your WordPress.com site. This means visitors will see that domain in their browser’s address bar instead of the free WordPress.com address you chose when you created the site. It’s totally okay if you want to use that address though!

Will I need to pay for the new wordpress.com site? Or will my charges from WordPress.org be transferred over?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi hgardella,

Will I need to pay for the new wordpress.com site?

You can choose a Free or paid plan. Paid plans offer some additional features which you can compare on this page:

    https://wordpress.com/pricing/

Domain mapping is only a feature of paid plans, so you would need to upgrade in order to use becomingyourmom.com on your WordPress.com site.

Your WordPress.org site uses the Twenty Sixteen theme. We have a version of that theme for WordPress.com sites — it’s one of our free themes so there is no extra cost :)

Just to be clear, i signed up and paid for WordPress.com and a domain name. But instead I was set up with wordpress.org… still not sure how this happened. Now I need to pay AGAIN to set up on a paid plan when I migrate to WordPress.com? Why doesn’t my paid plan migrate as well?

Is there any chance you have another WordPress.com account? There are no upgrades owned by the account you are logged in to but if you let me know which domain you signed up for, I’ll see what I can find. Also, do you have a copy of the receipt? Please don’t post any transaction details here, I can follow up with you by email for those.

I have an email I can forward to you Hannah Gardella Gardellahannah

Ok, I’ve sent an email to the address on your account so you can reply with a copy of the receipt. Please let me know if the email doesn’t come through to you.

    Thanks!
