Changing web sites

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi I had an old account that did not renew on my word press account and I don’t want to renew it. I bought a domain through Go Daddy that I would like to transfer over when I can and I want to be able to blog and post to my new site. How do I get the old address off my word press to be not the primary? I’m a total beginner here and not smart to any of this tech stuff.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

I had an old account that did not renew on my word press account and I don’t want to renew it.

I’m not sure what you’re referring to here. An account refers to the username you use to log in, and you cannot renew an account.

The michelleitken account you’re using to post here owns one site, http://mylifeassbackwards.wordpress.com. You used to also own a domain for that site, mylifeassbackwards.com, but it expired and was removed from your account in January. You don’t currently own any upgrades with us.

Is that what you’re referring to, or are you speaking of another site in a different account?

I bought a domain through Go Daddy that I would like to transfer over when I can and I want to be able to blog and post to my new site.

To connect or transfer a domain to us you first need to buy a paid plan for the site, and then you can connect the domain here using the domain mapping upgrade, or transfer it to us completely:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/

You don’t need a domain to be able to post to your site, though. Your site is already online and anyone can find it at the free WordPress.com address, and you can already post to it by clicking on My Sites ->Blog Posts ->Add.

How do I get the old address off my word press to be not the primary?

What exactly is the “old address” you’re referring to here? If you mean the free WordPress.com address, that is automatically hidden the moment you register, map or transfer a custom domain to the site.
