claiming an inactive website

I’m the current president of a local writers group, and the group has a defunct …wordpress.com site that has been inactive for years. None of the current members know login information for the site. Is there any way to gain access to that older page? or does the group need to make a new URL and start from scratch?

Hi there, it looks like the only author on that site is
AKELL2013(and looking at the archives there, is that perhaps Ann Kellet?)If you can contact AKELL2013 ask her to transfer ownership of that site to you or another current WordPressdotcom user following this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/
However, if you have no way to recover the username account that set up the site or reset the password (per these instructions) you’ll likely want to set up an entirely new website. https://en.support.wordpress.com/create-a-blog/
If you do go that route, I suggest setting up a new WordPressdsotcom account using an email address that everyone will always have access to on a 3rd party email hosting site.

These instructions worked well, and I now have control of the site. There are four other Admins, a couple of whom are no longer local, so in hindsight, it may have been better to have my account added as an Admin without the full transfer.
This definitely did the trick, however. Thanks again!
