Classic Block. Where is it?

I am creating a new post and the Classic block editor seems to be gone? Any ideas where it is, or what has replaced it?

Hi there! The Classic block is still available. It now lives inside the current WordPress Editor.

When you’re editing the new post, click the + block inserter and search for “Classic.” You can also type /classic in a blank block area and select the Classic block from there.

The older Classic Editor is still available too, but it’s the legacy editor and is no longer actively developed. For the most future-friendly option, I’d use the Classic block, since it gives you the familiar toolbar inside the current editor.

This guide explains how to use the Classic Editor, the legacy editing experience on WordPress. The modern WordPress Editor can do anything the Classic Editor can do and much more, so even though the Classic Editor is still available, it is not recommended. Thanks for checking, there appears to be a very recent WordPress change.
If you have a  you can activate the .

I’ve confirmed that the Classic Editor plugin still works on plugin-enabled sites, but the other non-plugin options currently listed in the WordPress.com docs don’t appear to be working as expected right now.

The Classic Block is EOL. “We will soon (the date hasn’t been set yet) disable the Classic Block on WP.com. Users will stop seeing “Classic” listed in the block inserter, and existing posts that already contain a Classic block will continue to work and render as before.”

Hey there, apparently the recent update to the Gutenberg/AKA Block Editor removed the Classic Block from appearing in the Block Inserter. You can read about this development here https://make.wordpress.org/core/2026/05/07/whats-new-in-gutenberg-23-1-07-may/#other-notable-highlights

As @staartmees pointed out, you can still edit existing Classic Blocks. And although I have not yet tested this, by extension, it might also be possible to DUPLICATE an existing post where you used the Classic Block, then edit it to remove the existing content and create a new post.

I’d still say give the full Block Editor a chance. If you were already using the Classic Block, you had to do it in the Block Editor Interface, so that part should be already familiar to you. If you need a refresher, https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/learn-the-interface/

As far as working with the Paragraph block, just type. The default block is the Paragraph block. Nothing special is needed to use it.

If you have other content to add, there’s a block for that. https://wordpress.com/support/category/create-content/
