Classic editor for a teacher

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi WordPress — I’ve been using WP with my high school students for more than a decade. Is there any way that I can return to the Classic Editor without having to pay $300 for the undesired business upgrade? Simply put, the ‘new’ version took something wonderfully easy to use and made it unnecessarily complex.
    Thanks

  • Hi there,

The classic editor has been retired on WordPress.com, so the only way to get it at this point is to add the Classic Editor plugin to your site.

On WordPress.com it’s not possible to add plugins unless you have upgraded to our WordPress.com Business Plan, but if cost is an issue you can instead migrate off of WordPress.com and on to a self-hosted WordPress site, which are sites that you create on a “traditional web host” like Bluehost, GoDaddy, etc.

The self-hosted version of WordPress is more advanced and completely DIY, but would also allow you to add 3rd party plugins or themes.  Please note that this version of WordPress is usually the choice of web designers and developers, as well as advanced users, so it does not come with support like you have here.

Let us know if you need further assistance or if you have any questions.
