Hi there!
It looks like the domain had auto-renewal turned on, which is why it was renewed for another year, especially since an expired domain can be very expensive to get back. If you don’t want to keep the domain anymore, you can cancel the domain within 96 hours and get a full refund.
Generally speaking, you need to log into the correct WordPress.com account to cancel the domain, though. I understand you can’t access the account where the domain is registered in. So my suggestion is to reach out to our billing team at billingsupport@wordpress.com. If you can include a transaction ID from your credit card statement for the payment, that would also enable us to help you log into the other account.
Once you’ve emailed us, we’ll get back to you via email to help you with this further.
Thanks!

WordPress.com charges are always on autorenewal.
To restore access to the account owning that site, you can use the Transaction ID at https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/#account-recovery-form. Once logged in to that account, you’ll be able to cancel and get a refund.
