Code formatting on non-self-hosted blog not working

  I’m using
  pre and ` tags on my WordPress blog that is NOT hosted i.e. I can’t install plugins.

  I’m a programmer and I want to post code. The code must be indented. However,
  pre and code tags are ignoring my indented code which means I can’t post.

  How do I indent my code examples?
