Comments Showing/Not Showing

  I noticed when people post in response to one of my articles on my WordPress blogs, the comments do not appear underneath the article if it is the current homepage article. I have a separate page that lists all my articles in alphabetical order (with links), and if someone accesses an article that way (including the current homepage article), they’ll see the comments. So it’s not like it’s impossible for someone to get to the comments, but for a casual reader who happens to come upon my homepage article, they won’t know anyone commented.

  Not that this is a major thing by any means, but I’m curious why it would be set up that way. Is it perhaps alterable by something I could do from my end in the settings?

  Hi @cgabriel223,

  What you’re seeing is normal for your current theme. The homepage is a posts index, even though it displays the complete article. It shows a “2 Comments” link beside the post details, but the comments themselves appear only on the individual post page. There isn’t a standard setting that will display the full comment thread directly on the homepage.

  To make the discussion easier to find, you could add a More block after the opening paragraphs. Readers would then follow a “Continue reading” link to the individual post, where the comments appear below the article. That should make the route to the discussion much clearer!

  Hi,

  I think this is more likely related to your theme than your comment settings. Some WordPress.com themes don’t display the full comments section on the homepage because the homepage is intended to show post previews rather than the complete single post.

  Since the comments appear when you open the post itself from your alphabetical archive page, it sounds like the comments are working correctly they’re just not being shown in the homepage layout.

  You could also double-check Settings → Discussion to make sure comments are enabled, but from your description it doesn’t sound like that’s the issue.

  If you’re comfortable sharing which theme you’re using, someone may be able to confirm whether this is expected behavior or if there’s an option to change it.
