Completely confused

I am trying to create a website which I have done many times using other platforms but I just cannot make any sense of WordPress.
I think I have registered, I started creating the site but it keeps reverting to an earlier effort even though I have saved it. One of the pages (Home 2) which I have just been working on has completely disappeared. Is there just a simple tutorial on getting started you can recommend? The ones I have looked at go off on tangents and just send me all over the place without answering any of my questions.
Final question I have a theme on my site but I do not like the layout-is it possible to move elements within a theme? So for example my logo may appear large and in the centre on the theme I have selected but I want it to be smaller and appear top left.
Additionally I want columns within the home page but this does not seem possible, everything just goes below the previous element.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Is there just a simple tutorial on getting started you can recommend?

The best place to start to learn how WordPress.com works is https://learn.wordpress.com/

We also have some video tutorials at https://en.support.wordpress.com/video-tutorials/

I started creating the site but it keeps reverting to an earlier effort even though I have saved it.

Are you speaking of changes you made in the Customizer? Those changes are currently saved as a draft. To make them live on your site, go to the Customizer, click the Gear icon next to the blue button at the top, and select the Publish option. Then click the button which will now read “Publish”

One of the pages (Home 2) which I have just been working on has completely disappeared.

That page is listed under your draft pages here:

    https://wordpress.com/pages/drafts/justwebsites435170460.wordpress.com

You can edit it there and publish it to make it live on the site, or as you created it from within the Customizer, publishing the Customizer changes should also publish that page.

Final question I have a theme on my site but I do not like the layout-is it possible to move elements within a theme?

It’s possible, but not easy. To change the position of elements in a theme you need to use custom CSS to override your theme’s own CSS. This is only possible in our Premium and Business Plan.

However, moving elements like this also requires very advanced CSS, and depending on what you want to move we might not be able to provide that for you – if the changes you want to make are too complex you’ll need to hire a professional designer/web developer to help you.

The specific change you mention here, regarding the logo, we should be able to help with, though.

Additionally I want columns within the home page but this does not seem possible, everything just goes below the previous element.

To add columns you’ll need to add some HTML code in the HTML view of the editor. We have instructions on how to do that here:
