Composition screen no longer shows "submit/publish" button

  • Unknown's avatar

My attempt to add a new post is now different from previous.

The Compose window runs off the screen-right border.

This I would normally control with a window slider at bottom, but that slider to reveal the rest of the window is gone.

Changing the screen resolution higher to reveal more did not change anything. And of course, lower window-right contains the publish/submit button which cannot be accessed with no slider present.

Please advise how I can complete a post.

[I notice that this forum window is formatted correctly and shows a submit button and the slider to get to it.]

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I see you’re currently using Firefox 3.6, which is quite a bit behind. Can you please try updating to the latest release, which is currently 15?

This should not be necessary. I use the older version of Firefox by choice. Same with Thunderbird.

Just now I got the right sized box in WP and the submit button entering from a different prompt. This time the new post entered failed to complete. I can try later. These are historical pieces kept at wordpress as a reference. Perhaps traffic time is high but the fact remains, I could not complete the entry.

  • I’m sorry, but we cannot provide support for older browsers. As web technology continues to advance, so do browsers to keep up. Eventually, we have to stop providing support for older browsers, as do most sites, in order to continue to innovate with the latest web technologies.

We do not deliberately attempt to break things in older browsers, but it’s inevitable that a change we implement will eventually cause older browsers to stop functioning properly. We don’t like when this happens, but, at times, it’s unavoidable.

The last update to the Firefox 3.6 branch was in March of this year, and Mozilla officially discontinued it the following April. In reality, the 3.6 branch hasn’t received much in the way of web technology updates since September of 2010, so you’re really missing out on quite a bit by staying with it.

As far as browsers are concerned, we support all of the browsers listed at http://browsehappy.com/ and test every change in each of them.

I have Opera on here. I may be able to use that. I’ve stuck with older software as an XP user due to format changes in Firefox and as I recall bugs which made me revert to the older edition.

At the very least when I have my post made, the submit button should send the item, yes?

I will try again, maybe “off peak,” and see if there is a better response from the wordpress site.

I was able to make/publish the post in Opera whose screen resizer allowed reshaping the borders and so the ‘publish’ button was then available.

I do not know what the equivalent tool in Firefox 2012 might be. Any ideas?

  • I see your screen resolution is set to 800px x 600px, which may be too small for the current Dashboard. Can you increase your screen resolution at all?

If not, you can zoom out in Firefox 15 via the View menu.

One of these days I’ll install the current firefox again– when I’ve made a fresh backup in case I want to retrieve the old one.

yes, I did increase screen resolution the image was still not visible.

There are a lot of reasons to move to Opera but I know of no way to save all the settings and tabs and favorites to that browser.

  • Firefox 3 probably has zoom settings under the View menu too.

I quick peek only shows the usual control key combos for changing text size.

Actually whatever causes the screen to not size properly helps with ads on the right border. They are nearly off the page.

  • You’re seeing ads in the Dashboard? We don’t run ads in the Dashboard.

If you’re seeings ads in the Dashboard, they’re probably being inserted by a corrupt or infected browser extension, which is probably the cause of the rest of your problems.

That bit about the ads was just anecdotal. No WP does not show any ads in the dashboard– please don’t think it is a suggestion!

    Update.

Regards the problem under discussion, I made the update to Firefox 15. The problem of not seeing the full screen at wordpress/#/post or whatever my link opens to for that remains. It is not insoluable however because there is a little corner of the post button which can activate post.

The problem once again seems to the lack of a slider at the bottom of thr window to simply move the screen image a bit to the left.

Firefox seems to be behaving alright so far once I duplicated my scroll settings from the old version on a different computer here. That was one setting the new one didn’t pick up. In truth it might have been the one that made me run away from the newer ones to begin with. Can’t remember.

Can you explain ‘zoom’ in Ffx now just to see if I can tweak it correctly? I should do any upgrades to Opera as well since it seems to pinch hit every once in a while.

  • Does it help if you zoom out via the View menu?

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok I see it now. I’ll try a bit of ‘downsizing’ using zoom.

Usually I keep Mr. Magoo size type on this screen.

    Bravo!

One ‘[cntrl] + minus key’ click and the screen now shows all the detail needed to make a new post. Perhaps I had a setting made largerwhich WordPress remembered. In any case I will save this hint for the future.

    Thanks for your patience.

you may mark this “solved” or show me how to do that edit to the subject.

I found the ‘resolved’ option for topic status button and pressed ‘change.’
