Confirmation email link does not work

    I am brand new to WordPress. I registered, and received the email confirmation link. When I click it, it takes me to a blank page, and the confirmation does not go through. I tried to right click on the link and paste it into the address bar, and it is an extremely long string of random letters, and still takes me to a blank page.
    I have tried using 2 different browsers (Firefox and Safari) and the same thing happens in both. Help?
