connection problems

Hi just wondering why I keep getting a message saying, ‘Error establishing a data base connection’….I have messages saying my site is going down for anywhere for 3-8 minutes at a time over the last few days. Please help?

The site mentioned does not use our managed hosting environment from WordPress.com. Instead, it’s set up on the open source WordPress.org software which is something different.
