Contact Form – Customise "thank you" message and add a download link

I’m looking for a lead generator tool, and I’ve searched the forums and realised you don’t provide one for wordpress.com. I really don’t want to have to get a wordpress.org self hosted site to solve this problem.

What I want to do is capture potential customer’s email addresses and as a thank you give them a free report that they can download (in PDF format).

I get it that I can use the Contact Form to capture their email addresses. What I can’t find a solution to is how to then give them the free report automatically via my website.

So I figured if it’s possible to customise the “thank you” message that pops up after someone has submitted the Contact Form, I could add a link there to the free report.

    I hope that makes sense?

So, from what I can figure, the easiest way to get done what I want would be if I can customise the message my potential clients get after they have submitted the contact form.

Is that doable via custom CSS? Or some other way? Or can’t it be done at all?

    Thanks so much!

    Hi Sara,

Unfortunately that kind of feature is not possible on WordPress.com. This would be possible on WordPress.org through plugins similar to this:

    Custom Contact Forms

I just did a quick search and found that, so there may be much better ones around. To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities. At WordPress.com, we provide hosting, support, and tons of features for blogs. Users also have the option to purchase a variety of upgrades to customize the look and feel of their blog. WordPress.org is a software for self-hosted sites. With WordPress.org, users are provided access to all backend files and can upload custom themes and plugins.

If this is a necessity for you, I’d look into moving to the self-hosted, WordPress.org install.

This guide will step you through the process of moving your site to a WordPress.org instance:

As we only support sites hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new site – including the importing of the file – must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:

If you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com site to WordPress.org, we have a service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if it’s right for you:
