Contact form if you have two wordpress sites
-
I have two blogs. I cannot use the different URL and email addresses for the Contact form. The newer blog “assistanceisourbusiness.wordpress.com” or “assistanceisourbusiness.com” defaults to the first blog “jinshinjyutsuisnj.wordpress.com”
The same problem arises when I attempt to use the two different email addresses (email visible only to moderators and staff) and (email visible only to moderators and staff). Please help! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Can you send me a link to where you are trying to set up your contact form? I’d be happy to take a closer look at it for you!
-
Thank you for trying to help…the new site is http://www.assistanceisourbusiness.com”. When I try to create a new page and use the “contact form” button, regardless of the information I provide, it defaults to my first site which is “www.jinshinjyutsuisnj.net” when I click on “save draft” and view the page!

Hi there,
I want to make sure I understand exactly what is happening. I understand that you create a new page and insert a contact form onto the page. Then, you click the Save Draft button. At that point, what do you click to view the page? What exactly do you see on the screen and in your browser’s address bar?
Can you try creating a new draft page with the contact form in it? I’d like to take a look at the draft, as well, to help me understand what’s going on here. Thanks!

Okay, its done…I hit the preview button after I hit save draft. On the new page block, I click on “contact form” and it asks for name, email, web and I enter “Deborah”, (email visible only to moderators and staff) and http://www.assistanceisourbusiness.com. Then save draft, then preview, et voila al the jinshinjyutsuisnj.net information appears…’tis a mystery to me.

Oopsie…it was only done so that I could see it. It is wrong, but it is there for now! Smile.

Thank you for the additional details — I think I understand now what is happening! :)
When you visit the page with your contact form, you see the correct page, right? But the contact form is pre-filled with your other website’s address?
That’s actually expected behavior for the contact form. When you are logged in to your WordPress.com account, contact forms will be automatically filled out for you with the name, email address, and website listed in your account settings here: https://en.wordpress.com/settings/account/
Any WordPress.com user who visits that page will see the form filled out with their own information. Of course, you are welcome to change the information you see there before you submit the form.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that!

Hi Rachel.
Does that mean if I change the original wordpress.com settings, that my first blog’s contact form will automatically default to the new blog? Am I the only one who set up two different sites? How can I set up a new unconnected site? When I go to wordpress.com, it recognizes me right away.
Or should I just make a contact page with a link to the email address?
Thanks again for all your help…I’m following your blog. You are amazing. Love Misia, Astor Piazzolla and Rosa Passos made CD with Yo-Yo Ma that has a great DVD with tango…. -
Hi there,
If you change your WordPress.com account settings, it will only change what you see when you visit a contact form on a WordPress.com site. It won’t change what any visitors to your site see on the contact form — they see their own information, as listed in their account settings. (Any WordPress.com user who sees the contact form will see their own information filled out for them.)
The only connection between the contact forms on your two sites is that when someone submits either form, by default, it will be emailed to you at the email address on your WordPress.com account. If you want this to be different, though, you can change the notification preferences by editing your contact form:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/#notification-preferences
I hope this helps explain how the contact form works, but please let me know if you have any questions about it!

You are “aces” Rachel. I am 65+ and much of this is daunting to me. Everything boils down to math to energy and we didn’t even have calculators when I was in school! We had to memorize our “times” table! For now, I chose to type the email address on the contact page and not use the form. Thank again,. Gassho, Debbie

Hello Rachel. My WordPress blog is not responding to appearance changes or widget changes and also will not permit me to send a question to the happiness assistants. I really need some help here.
I printed out the support doc to try to update my 6 widgets on the twenty-10 theme. It will not display the current widgets…which I did not select…except for “categories”, so I cannot remove them nor drag the widgets I want to add. The instructions are pretty clear, but they don’t work. So I spent an hour looking over different topics in the support screen area, but no suggestions worked. So I tried to write to the happiness assistants and that didn’t work either. You helped me before, so here I am again.
Also, the Dashboard pages on both my blogs are not displaying properly. The dropdowns cover the text box and don’t close once I’ve selected the topic. For instance, Appearance Drop down then widgets topic and the whole thing stays open. Can you please help me? Thank you. -
Hi Debbie,
Some themes come with a set of default widgets. If you look under Appearance > Widgets in your dashboard and you don’t see any widgets listed in your sidebar, your theme is using its default widgets. As soon as you put a new widget in the sidebar, those default widgets will disappear.
You mentioned that you’re having trouble with the dashboard: dragging widgets, using the dropdown menus, etc. Can you let me know what browser (including the version) you are using on your computer? If you are using Internet Explorer, please check to make sure compatibility view is turned off. You can find instructions for doing that here:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view
If that doesn’t fix the problem, please let me know! I’d be happy to investigate further. :)

That was the problem! So simple. I never would have found it without your help. Thank you.

Rachel! I cannot believe what a dunce I am! I printed all our literature to reflect the address as http://www.assistanceisourbusiness.net instead of .com! Is there some way I can change it to .net? I feel like I’m having deja vu…It seems I’ve asked this question before…OMG. Early in our conversation I noted that the other blog is http://www.jinshinjyutsuisnj.com but it is actually .net…how did I do that? Please help this old lady….

Hi Debbie,
Oh no! When you purchase a new domain, you’re registering that exact name for use with your WordPress.com site. Domain names can’t be exchanged for other names. And because of how domain registration works, domains can only be cancelled for a refund within 48 hours of purchase.
However, I’d recommend you keep the .com domain anyway. That’s because a lot of people assume that domains end in .com, even when they are supposed to end in .net or other domain extensions. What I’d recommend is that you register assistanceisourbusiness.net as a second domain for your site. That way, people who get your literature will be able to visit the .net domain, but even if people write it as .com they will still end up on your site.
Then, when your domains come up for renewal next year, you can decide whether you want to keep both domains or just one of them. Please let me know if you have any questions about that!

Whew! Done and not a too expensive lesson to learn. Thank you, Rachel.
Now I have to figure out how I connected With Google when I set up the very first site…it was easy then, but I cannot remember. How do find out where the site is displayed; Google, Yahoo, whatever, or does it just “happen”?
Google sent me a card in the mail for the JSJ site and I had to enter the password. I am so confused! You young folk are lucky to have been brought up in the advanced technology age. (Well most of the time)
Thank you again, Debbie -
Hi Debbie, I’m glad that solution worked for you! :)
WordPress.com will automatically notify search engines like Google and Yahoo about your site, so you don’t have to do anything to get your site into search engines. It may take a little time for search engines to start listing your site, but we take care of notifying them for you. You can read more about that here, if you’d like: Search Engines
If you want, you can also set up webmaster tools for your site. These tools let you verify with search engines that you own the site, and they give you extra information about how people search and find your site via search engines. However, these tools aren’t necessary for getting listed in search engines! If you think you’d like to set them up, we have a guide here: Webmaster Tools
There isn’t anything connected to WordPress.com that involves Google sending a card in the mail, but Google does have a number of extra services for website and business owners. Google does have a Places for Business service, and they have more information and support for that here: https://support.google.com/business/
Let me know if I can provide any further help. :)
