I was adding content to a post and when I clicked ‘update’, all my modifications disappeared. Is there any way to get them back?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

I’m so sorry for the trouble! When you use the editor at https://wordpress.com/post it saves your work in your browser. Can you please try opening the editor again to see if it offers to restore what you wrote there? If you see the option to restore your post, you can click that restore button at the top of the page to get back your latest changes.

If that doesn’t work for you, you can also try checking your post revisions in the classic editor. That will show you each saved revision of the post you were writing. You can view those by clicking on the post title in your classic dashboard here:

Please let me know if you have any questions about that!

    Hello Rachel,
Thank you for your fast response. My problem is that I can’t restore and no previous versions appear. It does say that the post was published in private on May 22nd and it says that it was edited on May 25th at the bottom of the page. I don’t understand what is happening here….

    Hi there,

When you added the new content to your post, did you use the editor at https://wordpress.com/post or the classic editor at https://lavoieestlibre.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php ?

Unfortunately if there are no saved revisions for the post, and no option to restore when you visit the editor at https://wordpress.com/post your changes, I can’t help you recover those changes you made. If you can describe the exact steps you took to add that content (including what editor you used, what content you added, and where you clicked during that process) I can check to see if there is an issue in the editor that we can fix to prevent that from happening again.

    Hi,
Hey I guess I lost it. It’s the second time that it happens to me.
We have a say in French : you have to put your work a hundred times on the table. So I guess, I will write it again.
I always to through the dashboard, click on articles and select the one I want to work on. I believe that it is the classical editor that I use.
I added a few paragraphs and changed the text.
I tried to add a few images but it didn’t work. I then decided to leave it for later – as I am not working on my own computer these days.
Then I figured I should save my changes. I clicked on “mise à jour” which would be I guess “update” in the English version?
It asked me if I really wanted to do that. Which is weird. Maybe I clicked on the wrong button. But the article is not in the trash.
All my changes disappeared at that very moment. There was a previous version showing, but nothing happened when I clicked on it. I decided to publish in private to see if that would give me access to this previous version, but it doesn’t show up anymore.
The post we are talking about is this one: http://lavoieestlibre.me/2015/05/22/la-relation-possible-entre-agent-dartistes-et-entreprises/
Thank you so much for your time. I would appreciate to know if I am doing something wrong so I wouldn’t do it in the future.

Thank you for those details — that helped me track down the problem. According to our records, that post was sent to the trash and then later recovered from the trash and turned into a private post.

It sounds like instead of hitting the blue Update (“Mettre à jour”) button, you accidentally clicked the red Trash (“Mettre dans la corbeille”) link. That’s why a message popped up to ask if you really wanted to do that. Because the post went to the trash, your changes weren’t saved.

One way to avoid that problem is to use our new editor:

    https://wordpress.com/post/

You can edit your posts in that new editor by going to https://wordpress.com/posts/ and clicking on the post you want to edit. In that new editor, the “Trash” link is farther away from the Update button so it’s harder to accidentally click the wrong one.

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)
